Security and Safety Policies and Practices
Controlled Access – A passcode is required to enter the building. There are security cameras around the perimeter of the school operating 24/7.
Fingershields are installed on doors to protect against pinched precious fingers.
All of our staff are CPR certified by the American Heart Association and First Aid certified by the American Red Cross.
All staff members are required to receive a minimum of one hour of training per year on child abuse and neglect.
Releasing of Children
In order to protect your child, it is our policy not to release children to persons other than the child’s parents or legal guardians. Children will be released to other adults under these conditions: The person is listed by parents on the Authorization Form kept at The Octopus Garden, or the parent has called in an urgent situation, and has given verbal authorization over the phone. The parent will be asked for identification information of the person picking up and the person picking up will be required to show identification.
Emergency Drills
Tornado, fire drills and lock-down drills will be practiced on a regular basis. All smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and fire alarms are tested during these drills. We are connected to the National Weather Service NOAA radio at all times, listening for severe weather reports and changing conditions. There is an Emergency Preparedness Policy that is available for review.
Weather Statement
In the event of inclement weather, The Octopus Garden will follow Richardson ISD policies. If RISD schools close, we will also close. Parents should monitor the RISD website or TV regarding school closings during this kind of weather.
