Ages 6 Weeks to 14 Months
Welcome to the Infant Room!
We want to welcome you to the Infant room at The Octopus Garden Preschool. Our Infant room teachers have over 25+ combined years of infant care experience. Teachers engage children with age-appropriate activities that promote sensory exploration and gross motor development. Our babies range in age from 6 weeks to 14 months (approximately) and have many different needs – physical, emotional, social and cognitive. You and your child will feel at home in our safe, loving, and peaceful Infant room environment.
Our Day
Our day is a balance between meeting physical needs and providing stimulating experiences and interactions with your baby. Although we have a schedule, we realize the importance of flexibility to meet the needs of our babies.
After greeting your baby, we begin each day with floor time. Floor time consists of interacting with various toys, exercising in the excersaucer, swinging, laying in the infant seat with quiet objects to look at and touch, reading books, singing, exploring colors, pushing the walker back and forth and crawling around the room to explore. Breakfast needs are usually around 9:00-9:30. Diaper changes begin before snack and again around 10:15-10:30. All diapers are checked and changed every 1½ to 2 hours or as needed on a consistent schedule. Between 9:30-10:00 we have floor time again. Mid-morning is quiet time for bottles and napping. This is also outside time for some older infants, weather permitting. They really enjoy the outside.
After nap, we prepare for lunch and have diaper changes. In the afternoon we have floor time again which allows us to interact and nurture your baby one on one. We recognize the emotional needs of each baby and respect their individuality.
Communication
In addition to the obvious expectation of loving, nurturing and attentive care for your child, you can expect regular communication with us. This is achieved through various methods. The most regular form is the use of “daily sheets”. We fill these out each day to document what your child has eaten, diaper changes and liquid intakes for that day.
